Kevin McHale: Glee suffered after Cory’s death

Kevin McHale believes ‘Glee’ never recovered after the death of Cory Monteith from a drugs overdose in July 2013.

Kevin McHale doesn’t think ‘Glee’ recovered from Cory Monteith’s death.

The 26-year-old actor admits the ”vibe” on set changed after his co-star passed away from a drugs overdose in July 2013, which meant the long-term storylines had to change and the cast felt ”weird” about continuing the show.

He said: ”I will say, not to bring it down or anything, when Cory Monteith died, I don’t think the show ever came back from that.

”It wasn’t for a lack of trying, but the story was going in one direction with his character [Finn Hudson] and he was one of two main characters of the show.

”I think after that the vibe on set was different. It was just weird for us being there never mind actually having to be filming. Being one of the writers in that sort of situation — I wouldn’t have known what I would have done because I was like, ‘I don’t really even want to be here.’ ”

Since the show ended after six seasons in March, there have been rumors about spin-off programs but Kevin – who played Artie Abrams – doesn’t think the audience is there anymore.

Speaking on ‘The HuffPost Show’, he said: ”Towards the end, there weren’t that many people watching ‘Glee’. So I don’t know how many people would then watch a spin-off. We’re off the air for a reason.”
