Giorgio Armani has announced a new womenswear line.

The luxury Italian brand will launch an entire collection, entitled ‘New Normal’, which will be comprised of ”classic” pieces, it was revealed yesterday (02.03.15).

Giorgio, 80, who founded his eponymous label in 1975, told WWD: ”It will show how I think today’s women should dress.

”The idea is to start from classic designs to create a new classic. It’s a collection meant to last, which will be renewed as we go but will remain rooted in the classic style.”

In addition to creating his new line, 2015 is already shaping up to be a busy year for the world renowned designer after he was named special ambassador of Expo Milano.

Giorgio is set to open the Universal Exhibition in his hometown of Milan on April 30 with a runway show in celebration of his label’s 40th anniversary.

The show will coincide with the opening of his museum-archive, entitled Armani Silos, which will be housed in a former Nestlé factory facing the company’s headquarters on the Via Bergognone, and will display a permanent exhibition of the brand’s past creations and drawings.

Giorgio has described the museum as his ”own Tate Gallery” and plans to hold events to benefit and support young fashion talents in the space.

He said: ”It will also be a cultural centre, open to the arts and to those who study fashion – sort of my own Tate Gallery.”
