Angelina Jolie’s daughter was cast in ‘Maleficent’ because she was the only child that wasn’t scared of her mother’s costume.

The 38-year-old actress has taken on the role of the evil fairy in the upcoming adaptation of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and has admitted that her now five-year-old daughter was only cast in the film because the other young actors and actresses were too scared of her costume.

She said:  »The other 3 and 4-year-old [performers] wouldn’t come near me. It had to be a child that liked me and wasn’t afraid of my horns and my eyes and my claws. So it had to be Viv. »

The ‘Salt’ star also spoke about her character and her own casting in the film – which will tell the story of Sleeping Beauty from Maleficent’s point of view – and claims people think she was the perfect choice.

She told Entertainment Weekly:  »The exercise wasn’t, ‘how can we have fun with a villain?’ It was ‘what turns people evil and vile and aggressive and cruel? What could have possibly happened to her?

»It is really funny when people say you’d be obvious for a great villain. »

Angelina has five other children – Shiloh, Maddox, Pax, Zahara and Knox – with partner Brad Pitt and says she’s thrilled her new film has changed their opinion of Maleficent.

She added:  »I heard Shiloh getting into a fight with another kid, defending Maleficent, saying, ‘You don’t understand her! »’

Maleficent is set for worldwide release on May 30.
