Dame Helen Mirren to receive BAFTA Fellowship

Dame Helen Mirren will be presented with a BAFTA Academy Fellowship on February 16 to recognise her contribution to the film industry.

Dame Helen Mirren will be presented with the BAFTA Academy Fellowship 2014.

The ‘RED 2’ star will be awarded the prestigious prize in recognition of her exceptional contribution to film industry at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) which will take place at the Royal Opera House, London on February 16.

Mirren will join the ranks of Charlie Chaplin, Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg and Judi Dench who’ve won in previous years and felt honoured when she learnt the news, claiming it’s beyond anything she’d ever dreamed of.

The 68-year-old actress said: ”This is the greatest professional honour I can imagine, certainly one I never dreamt of as a schoolgirl in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex. To join that list of legendary names is overwhelming.”

John Willis, Chairman of BAFTA, praised the talented star on her ”incredibly successful” career and thinks she is well deserved of the award.

He added: ”Dame Helen Mirren receives the Fellowship as one of the most outstanding actresses of her generation. Dame Helen’s incredibly successful career is testament to the determination, dedication and skill she brings to each of her roles.”

Mirren has previously won four BAFTAs and had a further seven BAFTA nominations.
