Brett Ratner has signed on to direct ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’.

The 44-year-old film director has agreed to direct the action comedy almost five years after he was first approached, and will work alongside Jerry Bruckheimer as he joins forces with his new company Paramount to produce the sequel.

Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemex are currently still working on the script, but Brett is expected to start work on the film as soon as he has finished ‘Hercules: The Thracian Wars’ in July.

Meanwhile, Eddie Murphy will be reprising his role as Axel Foley, a street-wise Beverly Hills cop who attempts to solve murders, although no other castings have been revealed as of yet.

However, just last year Murphy – who attempted to turn ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ into a TV show based around Axel’s son – said there would not be a fourth movie because he has had enough of making sequels.

He said previously: ”I’m some kind of sequel champion, I did more sequels than anybody. I did my share of sequels for now, any ways.”
