Prince William knights Tony Robinson

Prince William has knighted British actor Sir Tony Robinson.

The royal bestowed the honor of a knighthood on the 67-year-old actor – who is best known for portraying downtrodden manservant Baldrick in BBC sitcom ‘Blackadder’ – and former Liberal Democrat leader Sir Menzies Campbell at Buckingham Palace earlier today (12.11.13).

The Duke of Cambridge stepped in for his grandmother Queen Elizabeth as she was suffering ”mild discomfort” with her ankle following a busy weekend, but royal officials insisted the monarch was not ill.

Despite missing the investiture ceremony, Elizabeth is expecting to fulfil her royal engagements tomorrow (13.11.13) and is said to be excited about her visit to Manchester, north west England, on Thursday (14.11.13).

A spokesman said: ”The Queen is experiencing some mild discomfort with her ankle, following a busy weekend.”

William performed his first investiture ceremony last month when he bestowed honors upon recipients including singer Aled Jones, TV producer Jon Plowman and tennis ace Andy Murray at Buckingham Palace.

Andy said afterwards: ”He asked me about my recent back surgery which I had a few weeks ago and how I was feeling after Wimbledon.

”I teased him a bit as he had sent me a note to me before Wimbledon wishing me luck and his wife had written me a letter afterwards. Her handwriting was beautiful and I told him how fantastic it was compared to his.

”I have met him a few times before and he has always been very easy going. He seemed very relaxed today.”
