Prince Charles is hands on with Duchy Originals

Prince Charles is very hands-on with Duchy Originals and tasted many different biscuit recipes to perfect the brand’s classic oaten biscuit.

Britain’s Prince Charles is very hands-on with Duchy Originals.

The 64-year-old royal launched his own organic food line in 1992, long before buying organic produce became the household norm, and the company has since rolled out 230 products which are all carefully selected and sampled by Charles before going on sale.

The centerpiece of Duchy Originals is an oaten shortbread biscuit which Charles came up with, with help from Jim Walker, managing director of Walkers Shortbread.

Jim told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: ”He works much harder than most people realize. At the start he ate a lot of biscuits.

”We didn’t make organic products back then [in 1992]. The prince encouraged us to start and it’s been a happy partnership ever since.”

Prince Charles has also been hailed for sharing a great bond with the farmers who supply his products, such as free-range chicken farmer John Tuft.

He enthused: ”He is concerned about all types of agriculture, which makes him a great champion for people like me.”

The royal even visited John’s home and was ”very passionate”.

The farmer added: ”He sat down in my dining room and had a cup of tea with the whole family.”
