Daniel Radcliffe cast in Gold

Daniel Radcliffe has been cast as Sebastian Coe in ‘Gold’, which is based around his rivalry with fellow athlete Steve Ovett in the years leading up to the Moscow Olympic Games.

Daniel Radcliffe is to star in ‘Gold’.

The ‘Harry Potter’ actor has been cast as Sebastian Coe in a film drama created around his rivalry with fellow athlete Steve Ovett in the years leading up to the Moscow Olympic Games.

The 24-year-old hunk is set to reunite with ‘The Woman in Black’ director James Watkins, while Simon Beaufoy and Will Davies will co-write the script.

The film will be produced by Joanna Anderson, Vicky Licorish and Kevin Loader, and financing will be provided by Ingenious Senior Film Fund.

Beaufoy – who scored an Oscar award for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ in 2009 – admitted earlier this year that the film was a ”brilliant story” with a ”perfect end”.

He told the BBC: ”I hadn’t realised how good it was until you dig into their past.

”They were fantastically different athletes and different people.

”And they rarely met… apart from on the track – but not very often, even on the track.”

Shooting for ‘Gold’ is expected to kick off next April in the UK and Russia.
