Stars come out for Great Gatsby party

The stars came out for Warner Bros.’ lavish after-party for the ‘Great Gatsby’ screening at Cannes Film Festival last night (15.05.13).

Warner Bros. threw a ‘Great Gatsby’ inspired party at Cannes Film Festival last night (15.05.13).

The movie studio celebrated its latest film opening the prestigious 66th annual film gala in France by throwing an after-party not dissimilar from the glamorous affairs seen in Baz Luhrmann’s opulent drama.

Following the film’s premiere – which saw stars including Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire walk the red carpet – festival-goers were invited to a soiree thrown under a large makeshift tent, where, despite a downpour of rain threatening to dampen proceedings, guests appeared to be in high spirits as they partied the night away.

Warner Bros. spared no expensive on the party, decorating the marquee with silver tinsel on the walls, tinsel trees and white balloons. There was also a fireworks display and music from Bryan Ferry and Florence Welch, who appears on the ‘Great Gatsby’ soundtrack.

Director Baz Luhrmann felt the grandiose bash was a fitting ode to his movie’s lead character, Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio), who throws lavish, expensive parties at his palatial home in the flick.

He told Deadline: "I love it. I think Jay Gatsby would have loved it too. ‘Screw the rain,’ he would have said."

Warner Bros.’ worldwide marketing director Sue Kroll added: "When you open the festival, you have to spend a good amount of money on the party."

Other attendees included the film’s stars DiCaprio, Isla Fisher, who was accompanied by actor husband Sacha Baron Cohen, and Cannes jury members Steven Spielberg and Christoph Waltz.
