Prince Harry to visit ‘hard-hit’ New Jersey

Britain’s Prince Harry will visit one of the towns most affected by Hurricane Sandy, which struck in October 2012, during his forthcoming US tour later this month.

Britain’s Prince Harry will visit one of the towns most affected by Hurricane Sandy during his forthcoming US tour.

The flame-haired royal will take in the New Jersey beachside community of Mantoloking during his jaunt on May 14 because he was keen to see the ”hardest-hit town in New Jersey” following the devastating natural disaster in October 2012.

George Nebel, Mayor of Mantoloking, said: ”Security for this visit is being handled by the U.S. State Department so most of you won’t get anywhere near’ the prince.

”He wanted to see the hardest-hit town in New Jersey.

”He’ll arrive by car, walk along the road to see 10 houses, back in the car with the governor and gone.”

Every one of the 521 homes in the town were either damaged or destroyed by shocking storm, which occurred when Hurricane Sandy merged with two other weather systems.

As well as visiting New Jersey, Harry – who has completed two tours of duty as a soldier in Afghanistan – will take in Washington DC, Denver, New York, and Connecticut as part of the official trip from May 9-15 to promote the rehabilitation of injured US and UK troops.

The prince’s private secretary, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, recently explained: ”Prince Harry wants to highlight once again the extraordinary commitment and sacrifice of our injured servicemen and women – our wounded warriors.

”Although a prince, Harry is also an operational soldier – indeed he’s a soldier’s soldier – therefore throughout this briefing the recurring theme is to help recognise and bring a spotlight on to the work being done to help these outstanding young men and women.”
