Noel Gallagher isn’t feeling enthusiastic about making a new album.
The former Oasis rocker enjoyed great success with his debut solo LP, ‘Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’, and although he has a number of songs written, is finding it hard to muster up any interest to play them properly or start a new record.
He said: I’ve still got the songs I did with [dance group] Amorphous Androgynous, but the moment has gone now with that. Because it was written and recorded in the studio in a rather psychedelic manner, I’m currently in the process of trying to work out how to play the f***ing things on the guitar. But I’m not doing anything with any great enthusiasm at the minute.
"I know I’ll probably do it [the new album] with [producer] Dave Sardy, I’ll probably do some of it in America. Other than that I’ve not really thought about it."
Noel also admitted he is "too bone idle" to branch out creatively as much as his former Britpop rival Damon Albarn – who has written operas and collaborated with many other musicians – and admits the money he makes from his back catalogue acts as a disincentive to return to work.
He said to Q magazine: "I’m too bone idle for that. Damon? F***ing hell, I was saying to him, ‘Have you ever had a month off?’ I used to be like that, but I do like resting on my laurels.
"Every time I think about going back to work ‘AKA… What A Life!’ will come on the radio and I’ll go ‘Haha, what’ s the point? F***ing done it. Going to the Groucho [club], see you later."
And Noel admits being a solo artist has made him realise how easy life was as a member of Oasis.
He said: "Being a singer, you go onstage and then, before you know it, you’re announcing the last song. You’ve got to be so on it.’
"Whereas in Oasis, I was like one of the fans. I was just singing the odd backing vocal thinking, ‘This is f***ing mega.’ I didn’t really have anything to do in an Oasis gig for 40 minutes."
