Britain’s Prince Philip has joked he is the ”world’s most experienced plaque unveiler”.

The 91-year-old royal made the quip as he officially opened a school garden at Langley Park Primary School in County Durham, North East England, earlier today (24.04.13), where he was cheered by pupils, parents and teachers as he arrived in a helicopter.

Just before he opened the garden – which was completed by pupils and volunteers – he told the crowd: ”Pay attention, you are about to see the world’s most experienced plaque unveiler.”

Philip was on fine form as he was presented with a book created by the schoolchildren and a lamp, which he said he was grateful for because he would be able to use it in the dark.

Princes Trust Team Leader Mark Lambert was delighted the Duke of Edinburgh – who opened the garden after a teacher wrote to him and asked if he would visit the educational establishment – was able to attend the ceremony.

He said told ITV.com: ”It’s a huge thing for the local area and the school to get someone from the royal family up here.

”The kids loved to see him and locals have come out to show their support so it’s been fantastic.”
