Duchess Catherine’s princess book gift

Duchess Catherine received a book called ‘What Do Princesses Do?’ from schoolchildren in Manchester.

Britain’s Duchess Catherine received a book called ‘What Do Princesses Do?’ as she visited schoolchildren in Manchester.

The 31-year-old royal – who is six months pregnant with her and Prince William’s first child – was bemused when youngsters at The Willows Primary School, where she launched a new scheme to support children affected by addiction, presented her an A3 book they had made pondering what royal life is like.

Flicking through the book, the duchess said: ”Eat bananas? Yes I certainly do that. Dancing, yes that too. Eat sweets. Yes I like all those!”

The royal attended the school to officially launch a new scheme from Action on Addiction and Place2Be, two charities she is a patron of, which offers counseling to youngsters who have observed drug or alcohol addiction amongst parents or guardians.

The charitable scheme is funded by Catherine’s Royal Foundation and Comic Relief.

To mark the effort, the duchess planted a tree at the school and comedian John Bishop, who is an ambassador for Comic Relief, earned laughs as he joked about the pregnant royal picking up a shovel.

He quipped: ”I can’t believe you have got a pregnant woman shoveling dirt like this while I’m standing around.”

Later praising the duchess, John told the Telegraph: ”I think it is great that the royals are tackling raw, ugly, dirty and difficult issues such as addiction. They could spend their time and money on the National Theatre and no-one would think anything wrong with it. But this is about people shooting up in toilets. It goes against type and it is fantastic. Addiction is harrowing for all those involved.”
