William and Catherine to stay in UK

Britain’s Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will not undertake any overseas royal tours for the rest of this year as they plan to focus on family life.

Britain’s Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will not undertake any overseas royal tours for the rest of this year.

Prince William and his wife Duchess Catherine are due to welcome their first child into the world in July, and so plan to focus on their family life in the coming months.

Their principal private secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton said a view on royal tours will be ”assessed” later in the year.

He added: ”I’m not anticipating the duke and duchess taking on overseas tours because of her baby.”

A royal source said though it is ”highly unlikely” the couple will travel abroad together this year once the baby is born, it is possible that William could take on solo overseas engagements.

The 30-year-old prince is due to complete his current tour of duty as an RAF Search and Rescue pilot in September and an announcement on what he plans to do after that is expected in the next few weeks.

Last year, William and Catherine – who was known as Kate Middleton before she married the prince in April 2011 – toured the Far East.

Shortly after their wedding, the pair spent 10 days in Canada and America.
