Noel Gallagher slams 1D, Emeli and Paloma

Noel Gallagher says he and Damon Albarn told One Direction to "f**k off" at the BRIT Awards, and the former Oasis guitarist has also launched a tirade against Emeli Sande and Paloma Faith.

Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn told One Direction to "f**k off" at the BRIT Awards.

‘The Death of You and Me’ singer says he and the Blur star – his bitter rival in the 90s – were unimpressed by the boy band’s performance of ‘One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks)’ and the Global Success Award they took home from the event in February.

He told ShortList magazine: "We were both guests of [charity] War Child. We both got f**king roaring drunk and told One Direction to f**k off in unison, which was funny.

"One Direction, prancing up and down singing a Blondie song and getting an award for it. Nice lads though they might be, f**k off. Which is exactly what we told them. It’s turning into the grand finale of ‘The X Factor’, which is exactly what [reality TV mogul] Simon Cowell wants."

One Direction were not the only act to feel the singer and songwriter’s wrath, as he feels the whole BRIT awards, which celebrates the best of British talent annually, has gone downhill.

He added: "I think the BRITs has now reached a tipping point. Something needs to be done. It’s a s**t thing for a middle-aged man to say – ‘Well, it’s not as good as it was in my day’ – but, you know, I’m still switched on enough to think, ‘It was better.’

"You look at the best now. Paloma Faith? Do me a favour. Who’s f***ing decided she’s a star? Emeli Sande? That is f***ing music for grannies. I don’t get it."
