In recent weeks, Tomas Tatar was expected to start looking more and more seriously at a new destination in the National League.
His recent change of agent was a good indication.
But now, just as the rumours were sending him east, the former Canadian has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche.
He will earn $1.5 million.

At $1.5M, it’s not a huge risk. After all, he won’t take up much space on the club’s payroll, and he can provide depth, which is important in an 82-game season.
And anyway, even if he’s not good in the playoffs, the club has playoff experience and doesn’t need him there.

The Penguins had already been mentioned, but here he is with a good NHL team. He should have a great time with the Colorado Avalanche.
And to help him adapt, Jonathan Drouin and Artturi Lehkonen, two of his former Montreal teammates, can help him find his feet in Denver.
He is also reunited with Miles Wood, his former teammate in Newark.
He had a good season with the Devils last year. A guy who can score close to 50 points in a season is normally a good field hockey player, let’s face it.
Let’s not forget that the former Canadien left Montreal two years ago. He became a free agent after being overlooked for the majority of the run to the Cup in 2021.
I can’t wait to see what happens this year.
