This morning, the field hockey world learned some sad news: Yvon Pedneault, who enjoyed an illustrious career in the sports media, sadly passed away this morning at the age of 77, following a bout of cancer.
On behalf of the entire DLC team, I would like to offer our most sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of one of the greats of his profession.

Because yes, Mr. Pedneault is one of the greats. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and had a brilliant career that spanned more than 50 years, both as a journalist and as an analyst.
And he always did it with great class.
In Quebec, of course, the entire sports media world is mourning his passing today. When you look at the shower of tributes that have been pouring in since this morning, you realize that he has left his mark on many, many current members of the media.
Here are just a few of the messages that honored the memory of one of the greats:
Great kindness, an outstanding raconteur, an exceptional career… my sympathies to the family. Bon voyage dear colleague ❤️🙏❤️ https://t.co/KepjNQFiLe

A true monument of sports journalism has left us. But he leaves us his inexhaustible passion for sports coverage as a legacy. Thank you Yvon for your trenchant opinions, which were always welcome, bringing debate and often laughter.
RIP my Yvon! https://t.co/Lx2QVaOeQi– GodboutSports (@GodboutSports) August 26, 2023
The man I played my first pro games with, and a few hundred after that!
Thanks for the friendship, for the advice. But above all, for the good times spent with you.
It’s so hard to believe there won’t be any more.
My thoughts are with Éric, Raphaël and the whole family. https://t.co/R26VFoe3gb– Sébastien Goulet (@SebGouletTVAS) August 26, 2023
When I was three apples high, I already idolized Yvon.
Then I had the opportunity to meet him at TVA and my admiration for him only grew.
What a kind, respectful, listening man. What a genuine man.
I’ll miss our discussions. Thank you for everything. https://t.co/VkI7mmyv7F

Sincere sympathies to the family and friends!“Comment ça va mon Yvon?” on air but it was Mr. Pedneault off air.
A 🏒 man but a great man who cared for his wife to the end.
You can go 🕺🏻 a twist with Mrs. Pedneault
Have a good rest! https://t.co/9R4qSComzA– Martin Lemay (@MartinLemay) August 26, 2023
Yvon Pedneault spent over 50 years in journalism, working for almost every newspaper company in Quebec, including La Presse. He and Marcel Desjardins are the only former LP reporters in the Hockey Hall of Fame. My condolences to his loved ones. https://t.co/UFnu2itsO0

During a television appearance this morning, Félix Séguin, who worked with him at TVA Sports, also paid tribute to the man who was a “role model” for him. Let’s just say that Mr. Pedneault was an excellent role model.
And even beyond Quebec, the late analyst leaves to mourn the entire media community that covers field hockey in North America.
Frank Seravalli, President of the Association of Hockey Journalists, also wished to honour Mr. Pedneault’s memory.
On behalf of the @ThePHWA, sending sincere condolences on the passing of Yvon Pedneault, one of the titans of field hockey media in Quebec over the last 50 years. He was the 1998 recipient of the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award and a true original. He will be missed. https://t.co/VAC0L2BoG2

The Quebec media landscape has lost a monument today, and rightly so; his life and career have been honored as they should be.
He will never be forgotten.

Was pondering how jarring it was when Sean Avery popped up in Oppenheimer. Got me thinking: what are the most iconic movie and TV roles for NHLers?
