Joel Edmundson has experienced it all in Montreal. From the madness of the 2021 playoffs to that of the lottery, he has remained true to himself. He’s accepted the roles he’s been given, including that of mentor to young players.
With David Savard and Mike Matheson still with the organization and the mentality of rejuvenating the defense, Edmundson knew his days with the CH were numbered.
Now with the Washington Capitals, Edmundson gave his first comments to reporters.
“I had a feeling a development like this was going to happen” 🔵⚪️🔴 https://t.co/Sj0lgrcS7e

He is grateful for the transparency of Kent Hughes, who was clear with him from the start of the process.
The general manager had wanted to trade him since last year, but made it clear that he would only do so if the compensation was sufficient.
Clearly, this wasn’t the case at the last trade deadline or even before the draft.
Edmundson confided that for the first time in several years, he’s healthy at this time of year.
“I’ve been working in the gym for two months now and I’m starting to skate. My body’s doing really well and I’ll have a full healthy summer between now and training camp.” – Joel Edmundson
And he believes it will make a difference as he has had to catch up with the rest of the NHL at the start of the season in recent years.
For me, this was the best return the CH could have hoped for, and for the Capitals, they have to hope Edmundson stays healthy. If that happens, it will have been a good deal for both sides.
The former CH defenseman will certainly bring a dose of leadership to the Capitals’ defense, which is going to need it. The team will be looking to bounce back after missing the playoffs last year.

According to an April tweet from @tombogert, Kwadwo Opoku(@Mahala_jnr) was in Bordeaux’s sights.
Dutch and Belgian clubs were also interested in the player. By chance, Renard is familiar with these clubs.
