Big day at the World Championships today. The focus was on Canada and the United States, who were both in action…
And it was a great opportunity to see how the Canadiens’ players are doing so far. Let’s see what happened.
First, the Americans took on Germany in a game that seemed a little easy for our southern neighbors. But that was clearly not the case.
The U.S. came away with the win, but it was a hard-fought 3-2 victory.
The team’s second goal was scored by Sean Farrell on the power play after he received a nice little pass from none other than Lane Hutson.
From Hutson to Farrell…
I have a feeling we’ll be hearing that a lot in the coming years.

The U.S. squad is perfect so far in the tournament, having won its first three games.
While Hutson and Farrell stood out in today’s game, the opposite was true of Luke Tuch, also a member of Team USA. In fact…
The CH prospect didn’t really get a chance to shine, spending just 2 minutes 53 seconds on the ice.
That’s not very much. We know that in this tournament, teams like to give priority to veterans and (especially) NHL players… And Tuch got a taste of that today.
Another victory for Canada and Samuel Montembeault
Like the Americans, Canada was looking for a third consecutive victory, and they were able to get it.
The Slovakia match also gave the impression that things might get a little easier for the Canadians… And the same thing happened as in the USA match. Canada won 2-1 in a shootout.
Samuel Montembeault got the start for Canada, and once again, he was solid in front of his net. He stopped 23 of 24 shots on his way to being named player of the game.
Monty has only allowed one net (in two games) since the start of the tournament.

Like Luke Tuch, Justin Barron spent most of the game on the bench, playing just 2 minutes and 11 seconds. He made a grand total of three appearances on the ice in the entire game…
Which is a bit of a shame. Again, I understand the principle of playing the older, more experienced guys, but at the same time, I feel bad for the young guys.
I just hope it doesn’t affect their confidence. That’s all that’s important, in the end.
In Brief

– Surprising.
Friedman on 32TP: “Someone said to me a couple of weeks ago that they would not be surprised if Sean Burke was on Don Maloney’s radar for the Calgary Flames, as a General Manager”.

– Samuel Montembeault has earned his place with the CH. [TSN 690]
– Whose luck?
He no longer belongs in Boston considering the presence of Triston Casas and Rafael Devers on the corners of the infield. https://t.co/aILT0oWLx4
