Natalie Portman is set to play Jackie Kennedy in a new drama movie.

The ‘Black Swan’ actress is wanted to take on the role of the late First Lady in ‘Jackie’, which will focus on what happened in the immediate aftermath of the assassination of her husband, US President John F. Kennedy, in November 1963.

According to Deadline, director Darren Aronofsky and Rachel Weisz – who previously dated from 2002 to 2010 – were planning to make the film when they were a couple but the helmer, who worked with Natalie on ‘Black Swan’, dropped out of creating the motion picture when the pair split and she has since left the project too.

Rachel previously said: "It’s a very beautiful script. I think it’s the four or five days after the assassination and how [Jackie] deals with the assassination and the funeral. It’s not a biopic. Its about that short period of time."

Steven Spielberg was also linked to the Noah Oppenheim-scripted drama movie in 2010, but it is not known whether he is still interested in the film.

Katie Holmes and Sarah Michelle Gellar are among a number of stars to have previously played Jackie when they took on the role in mini-series ‘The Kennedys’ and ‘A Woman Named Jackie’ respectively.
