Diane von Furstenberg insisted her models smiled while walking down the New York Fashion Week catwalk on Sunday (09.09.12) wearing her latest collection to complement the "beautiful colours" of her new range.

Diane von Furstenberg insists models smile at her fashion shows.

The Belgium-born designer broke with tradition and told her female models to walk down the catwalk at New York Fashion Week with a happy persona and loose hair on Sunday (09.09.12) to complement the "beautiful colors" of her latest collection.

She said: "I told the girls to smile. You don’t smile at other fashion shows, but at my fashion show you smile. They wear their hair loose, beautiful colors and off they went."

Diane admits she was feeling "so tired" and unenthusiastic at the prospect of yet another showcase on Sunday, but she managed to re-invigorate herself by hanging upside down on her yoga wall in the morning and kept telling herself that she would be successful during the day.

She added to WWD: "On Sunday morning, I was so tired. I had had such a hard week with fittings and all these things. I looked in the mirror and I looked so defeated and I said to myself, ‘I can’t be defeated.’

"I am going to a fashion show and 1,000 people come so I hang myself upside down so that the blood will come to my head. I have a yoga wall. Then I thought, ‘OK, I am going to be victorious.’ "
