Jacob Fowler lost 17 pounds

Jacob Fowler is a goaltender with tremendous potential. From the moment he was selected 69th overall in the last draft, you could sense that there was something different about this goalie; a joy and an immense desire to play for the Habs.

Not only does he want to play for the Habs, he dreams of becoming their number-one goaltender. The young American proved his desire this summer by losing a total of 17 pounds!

That’s what Journal de Québec reporter Kevin Dubé discovered during his trip to the Boston area to check in on some of the Tricolore’s hopefuls.

At the last NHL draft, Fowler’s official weight was 223 pounds. At 6 feet 2 inches, that’s not that much overweight, but it’s not ideal for a professional athlete.

In October, Fowler began his first NCAA season with Boston College. His official weight with the team at the start of the campaign was 214 pounds. As of October 30, the Canadian prospect now weighs 206 pounds!

And it’s all thanks to hard work with a nutritionist. This same nutritionist confessed to being very impressed with Fowler’s work, who possesses extraordinary discipline. In other words, he has a goal and does everything to achieve it.

Fowler has been extremely dominant in his last two seasons with the Youngstown Phantoms in the USHL. An efficiency rate of .927 in 18 games in his first campaign and another of .921 in 40 games in his second, that’s good stuff.

It’s what earned him a spot with the Boston College Eagles this season. His weight loss certainly helped. Better still, in his freshman year, he fought hard enough to earn himself a starting spot!

So far, he has a .919 efficiency rate and a 2.15 goals-against average. All this while dominating against Quinnipiac, the defending national champions.

If Fowler continues on this path, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him establish himself as the CH’s number one player one day.
