Joshua Roy is not 100% | William Trudeau evaluated on a daily basis

The Laval Rocket is not off to the hoped-for start to the season. Far from it, in fact.

Jean-François Houle’s men have won just one of their first eight duels of the campaign, and have lost their last four games.

But in all this, the positive element that stands out is Joshua Roy’s performance. The Quebecer was named AHL Rookie of the Month for the first month of the season, with 12 points (including five goals) in eight games.

That’s pretty impressive production for a fifth-round pick in his first year in the pros.

The Canadiens’ training club will be looking to get back on the winning track tonight at Place Bell, when they welcome the Toronto Marlies as visitors. Nicolas Landy (RDS) published a text to set the table before the game, and we discover in his article that Joshua Roy isn’t 100% at the moment.

There’s talk of a “little boo-boo” for the man who was sore after blocking a shot in his team’s last game on Wednesday against the Utica Comets. He should be able to play tonight, however, which is good news.

William Trudeau, who also played in Wednesday’s game, is currently sidelined. The Rocket has announced that he will be evaluated daily, as will John Parker-Jones.

It’s also interesting to note that forward Emil Heineman seems to be improving.

The Swede was injured in the second game of the season and hasn’t played since, but again according to Nicolas Landry, that bodes well in view of the fact that he spent a good part of this morning’s practice working out with goaltending coach Marco Marciano.

“An update on his condition is expected in the next few days,” the text reads.

But in all this, we realize that the Rocket is no luckier than the Habs when it comes to injuries. It’s all part of the game… But it’s starting to get worrying.

Since the start of the season, the Rocket hasn’t had any real trouble scoring goals – on the contrary. The team ranks 6th in the AHL for goals scored so far (28)…

But the problem is, the Rocket also find themselves first in the AHL for goals allowed in 23-24 with 41.

41 goals in eight games is a lot. Far too many, in fact.

The Laval Rocket’s defense is young, and the club relies on a lot of young players. There seems to be a significant lack of leadership, especially since the injury to captain Gabriel Bourque…

All of which is to say that Jean-François Houle’s men will have to bounce back before it’s too late.
