Fatboy Slim: closing ceremony was an honour

Fatboy Slim says performing at the Olympics closing ceremony was a "total mindf**k."

The ‘Praise You’ hitmaker performed ‘Right Here, Right Now’ and ‘The Rockafeller Skank’ with a giant glowing octopus at the musical spectacular on Sunday (12.08.12) and says being part of the London event was something he never dreamed of.

He said: "[It was] a total mindf**k and an honour.

"I felt I was representing Team GB for club culture. Although when you embark on a career as a DJ, you never really envisage yourself on top of a psychedelic bus, being engulfed by a 40-foot-high fluorescent octopus. That wasn’t what I was thinking of when I was learning to beat match!"

The DJ – whose real name is Norman Cook – took to the stage immediately after Russell Brand had performed ‘I Am the Walrus’ and ‘Pure Imagination’ and says he struck up a "bromance" with the comic during rehearsals.

He told Rolling Stone: "I spent most of the rehearsal time stuck on that bus with Russell, which is an experience I’d recommend to anybody. It was like going into battle in a tank. We had a bit of a weird bromance in that bus."

And although he enjoyed the event, the 49-year-old musician was "disappointed" that the Rolling Stones did not take part.

He said: "I was a little disappointed the Rolling Stones weren’t there. Because when it was first talked about, they were definitely in the frame."
