Shane Wright recalled by Seattle Kraken

The Seattle Kraken are not off to the start they had hoped for. After eliminating the Colorado Avalanche in the first round last year, one might have expected a hot start to a better 2023-2024 push.

Without saying it’s catastrophic, the 4-6-3 record isn’t stellar.

With all this in mind, the Seattle Kraken decided to give Shane Wright a chance to prove himself with the big club. The team’s next game is tomorrow against the Colorado Avalanche. He won’t be making the trip to the NHL alone, as teammate Ryan Winterton has also been recalled.

Remember that before the season began, team general manager Ron Francis had mentioned wanting to receive an exemption for Wright to develop fully in the AHL, even considering leaving him in Coachella Valley for the entire season.

Of course, he got the waiver, and Wright has done well so far this season. In 7 games, he has collected 6 points, including 4 goals, while maintaining a +4 rating.

As they say, he didn’t steal his chance, but at the same time, for an organization that advocated patience in his case, it’s a surprise all the same.

It will be interesting to see whether the 4th overall pick in the 2022 draft gets a real chance on the top two threes.

Last year, he played 8 games before being traded to Team Canada Jr. for the holiday tournament. He scored his first NHL goal against the Tricolore.
