Patrick Roy confirms he’ll be taking a winter break

Tonight was the Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremony. For the occasion, several players were honored in front of other Hall members, including Patrick Roy.

RDS’s Patrick Friolet took the opportunity to ask him a few questions about this year’s inductees. We’re talking about Henrik Lundqvist, Mike Vernon and Tom Barrasso.

Except that Friolet took the time to ask him if his phone has been ringing a lot lately. Roy was a good sport and gave a straight answer, even if it may disappoint some.

“I’m planning to spend a good part of the winter in Florida. It’s going to be a pretty relaxed winter.” – Patrick Roy

That’s not to say that Roy won’t make a comeback behind an NHL bench one day, only that it shouldn’t be for this season. This may calm down a lot of people who were eager to see him replace DJ Smith at the helm of the Ottawa Senators.

The rumours had become very heated in recent days. Norman Flynn had declared that the former Canadiens goaltender had been spotted in Kanata. This helped fuel the rumors, as the Senators are in search of a general manager and D.J. Smith’s position as head coach is hanging by a thread.

Quebecor journalists, however, refuted Flynn’s assertion, explaining that Roy was actually in Quebec City the day he was supposedly in Kanata.

Roy also took the opportunity to talk about the inductees he has worked with. Above all, he took the time to talk about his former teammate, Pierre Turgeon, who was an excellent player and an equally good person in his own words.

So the rumors may die down for a while, while Patrick Roy relaxes with a drink by the beach. But when it comes to Patrick Roy, rumors can come back in force in no time.

– Yes sir.

– Well deserved.

– This was a problem yesterday.
