A great night of hockey awaited fans last night as nine games were on the bill.
Here are the results and highlights:

1. Mike Hoffman scores his first Sharks goal
The night before last,Jonathan Drouin finally scored his first goal with the Colorado Avalanche.
And last night, another embattled ex-Canadian finally scored his first goal with his new team. In a 5-3 Sharks loss, Mike Hoffman broke the ice.

In 15 games this season, Hoffman has just two points.
Midway through the third period, with the hosts ahead, Carter Verhaeghe picked the right moment to score his 100th career goal.

2. Tage Thompson out for a long time
Tage Thompson had a tough night at work last night.
First, he injured his lower body in this sequence:

Although he returned to the game, the forward re-injured his hand.

He never returned to the game after that, and his coach, Don Granato, announced after the game that he’ll miss a lot of games. Poolers beware .
This is a major loss for Buffalo, who will now have to do without a forward who has collected 12 points in 16 games so far this season. Last year, he burst onto the scene with 94 points, including 47 goals.
In addition to Thompson’s services, Buffalo also lost the game to the Bruins by a score of 5-2.

3. The Ducks are unstoppable
Since the start of the season, the Ducks have really surprised everyone. Led by their young players, the California team is to be taken seriously.
As of today, Anaheim ranks first in the draft with a 9-6-0 record. In their last 10 games, they are now 8-2-0.

Last night, it wasn’t the young stars, but the third-pair defensemen who took charge of the attack.
Radko Gudas and Urho Vaakanainen each collected two points.
For the Preds, Ryan O’Reilly also collected two points, but in a losing cause.
The Ducks will look to continue their incredible streak tonight, when they take on the Avalanche in Colorado.

4. Hat trick for Sidney Crosby
Even at 36, Sidney Crosby is still one of the NHL’s best players. Last night, not only did he score a hat trick, he finished the game with four points.
He has scored at least one point in nine consecutive games and has only been blanked from the scoresheet in one game this season.

For those who thought he was going to slow down, think again.
The Penguins captain is still scoring beautiful goals.

He’s on track for a 111-point season, which would be his career-best.

5. Paul Cotter kicked out of the game
Let’s move on to a slightly less spectacular sequence.
Paul Cotter of the Golden Knights is in hot water. Last night, he hit Evgeny Kuznetsov in the head and was thrown out of the game.
Here’s the footage:

If Charlie McAvoy received a four-game suspension (for a similar gesture), I don’t see why Cotter would get off with a lesser consequence.
To be continued in the coming hours…
As for the game, Charlie Lindgren blanked the NHL’s best team with a 35-save performance. Number 35 has a 3-1-0 record this season, with a .947 save average and a 1.76 goals-against average.
What a start to the season for him, when the CH is desperately in need of a goaltender.
