Azzedine Alaia to open Paris store

Azzedine Alaia is set to open a new store in Paris.

The Tunisian-born couturier and shoe designer plans to open a flagship shop near Avenue Montaigne in the French capital, his first store since 1992.

The space – which is currently under renovation – will also house the label’s showroom and offices.

According to the Financial Times, the new store will be part of a "five-floor hotel particulier with an interior courtyard/garden that will function as store/showroom/some offices".

The designer famously doesn’t work with fashion’s traditional seasonal collections, only creating new work when he feels inspired.

He showed his first full collection in eight years at Couture Fashion Week in July 2011.

Famously outspoken, Azzedine has lashed out at both Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld and US Vogue’s Anna Wintour in the past.

Of Karl, he recently said: "I don’t like his fashion, his spirit, his attitude. It’s too much caricature. Karl Lagerfeld never touched a pair of scissors in his life."

He added about Anna: "She runs the business very well, but not the fashion side. When I see how she is dressed, I don’t believe in her tastes one second. Anyway, who will remember Anna Wintour in the history of fashion? No one."
