The Canadiens have been rebuilding since the middle of the 2021-22 season. Since then, many things have changed, most of them for the better, and Canadiens owner Geoff Molson has noticed. He’s happy with the result, even though he knows it’s not over yet.
Sportsnet’s Priyanta Emrith reported the CH owner’s comments on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon. For now, the owner is taking nothing but positives from his team’s run.
Speaking at the #NHL Board of Governors meeting, #Habs owner Geoff Molson on the current state of his team: “I’m feeling pretty good about where we are right now. We’re a .500 club right now but the development of our young players is happening & we’re starting to see it…”

Molson is satisfied with the evolution of his team, which is constantly evolving year after year. He’s even very happy to see that the CH is now playing for .500 with an 11-11-3 record. That sounds pretty good for a team that has just drafted in the top-5 twice in a row.
In addition to the team’s good performances, Molson is proud of the development of the youngsters. He admits that some of these young players struggled at first, but that the results are starting to show.
One example is Juraj Slafkovsky, who may not always be on the score sheet, but is playing some excellent hockey these days. On Monday night against the Kraken, he looked very good on a couple of occasions, especially in puck retrieval.
But in all of this, Molson doesn’t forget the fans’ pleasure.
#Habs owner Geoff Molson doesn’t see any reason to rush the rebuild: “I think the most important thing is we do it the right way. Every night we’re going to try to win hockey games for sure but we have to develop the right way…”

He absolutely wants his team to take its time in the rebuild, but he also wants the players to perform to try to win every game. With a few exceptions, most games this season have proven that the Habs are in the game.
And going too fast is the story of the Habs, always trying to get back in the game too quickly. All because, a few years ago, the word “reconstruction” was cursed in Montreal. So the team stayed average to keep fans from getting angry.
Montreal had to face the facts in 2021-22, and the news finally went down well with Tricolore fans. Since then, it’s been clear that the future in Montreal could be sensational.
Despite the CH’s progress, Geoff Molson continues to insist that the team is in no hurry.
#Habs owner Geoff Molson on not rushing the rebuild: “there’s no timeline really; it’s really about making sure that we progress and get to a point where we are a top-tier team.”

Nor is there a specific date for the end of the rebuild. The goal is to continue climbing the ladder to become a team that can aspire to top honors.
The important thing is to remember one word: patience.
