This month, Hong Kong Disneyland held a grand opening to celebrate the expansion of its theme park with a new attraction, Toy Story Land. Open since 2005, the park hopes to increase the flow of visitors, particularly with a new Shanghai theme park adding to the competition.
Based on the blockbuster animated film series, Toy Story Land features rides like RC Racer roller coaster, Slinky Dog Spin, and Toy Soldier Parachute Drop. Other attractions include Toy Solider Boot Camp, photo opportunities with Woody and Jessie, souvenirs, and refreshments.
Five themed areas: Main Street, U.S.A., Fantasyland, Adventureland, Tomorrowland and Toy Story Land are staffed by cast members who speak Cantonese, English, and Mandarin. Guide maps are printed in traditional and simplified Chinese as well as English, French, and Japanese.
The park attracted 5.2 million visitors in its first year, and will expand from 22.4 hectares (55 acres), to 27.4 hectares (68 acres) when all three new themed areas are completed by 2013.
