French ski resort delays opening

Val Thorens pushes back opening one week due to insufficient snow cover.

French ski resort Val Thorens in Savoy has been forced to push back its seasonal opening until November 26, since there is not enough snow yet, according to an announcement on its website.

Originally set to open on Saturday (November 19), the resort postponed the grand opening by a week in order to ensure both slope quality and safety for guests. Although dropping temperatures and diligent staff have been working to blanket the hills in snow, the resort believes that the one-week delay will help ensure the slopes are completely ready.

Météo France, the French national meteorological service, predicts the weather will remain cold overnight during the week, and resort staff plan to maximize snow production.

For the opening weekend of November 26 and 27, the resort will also be hosting the Rock On Snowboard Tour, where snowboarding fans can test out 30 different brands of equipment and participate in other related activities for free.
