New music October 25

Coldplay releases a new LP and Christmas albums begin to hit stores.

Today, alt rockers Coldplay release their long-awaited fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto, featuring hit singles Every Teardrop is a Waterfall and Paradise. Their first new music release since 2008’s Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, the 14-track album features Rihanna on the newest single, Princess of China.

"Well, our new record is sort of a story; it’s not quite a musical, but it’s dangerously close. There’s a bit of a love-story thread, so we really needed someone to sing even higher than me," frontman Chris Martin explained to MTV.

With the holidays approaching, artists are beginning to release their Christmas albums. Today marks the debut of Michael Buble’s fifth studio album – simply titled Christmas – which includes timeless classics like Jingle Bells, White Christmas and Santa Baby.

Folk rockers She & Him – a duo made up of actress Zooey Deschanel and musician M. Ward – release their own holiday LP with A Very She and Him Christmas, which features 12 classic tracks like Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and Silver Bells.

Bad As Me, the seventeenth studio album from iconic American singer-songwriter Tom Waits, sees its North American release today. Waits released the album’s first single – which shares a title with the album – in August, the first new music from the rocker in seven years.

Also out today: Kelly Clarkson releases her fifth studio album, Stronger; Toby Keith releases his 15th studio album, Clancy’s Tavern; and former Beach Boy Brian Wilson releases his family-friendly album, In the Key of Disney.
