Things to do in the Seychelles

Six things you must see while visiting the tropical island paradise.

Seychelles – the small nation that spans 115 tiny islands in the Indian Ocean – is about as ‘away from it all’ as a person can get. While on your relaxing vacation, The Daily Mail has collected a list of six essential activities to do in Seychelles.

Don’t limit yourself to the beach nearest your hotel. On Mahe, the largest island of the archipelago, Anse Major in the north-west is the place to go. It’s accessible only by boat or an hour-long walk, but it offers some of the world’s best snorkeling.

The islands are certainly worth exploring on foot. Mahe is covered in thick, green forest that contains a huge variety of tropical birds and animals. If you only have time for one hike, head to the top of Morne Blanc, which can be climbed in about 45 minutes and rewards you with an amazing view of the Indian Ocean.

Set aside a day to explore the nearby granitic islands of La Digue and Praslin. La Digue has even nicer beaches then Mahe, and will give you the opportunity to spot the Seychelles paradise-flycatcher, an endangered species of bird.

In about two hours, you can explore the entirety of Seychelles’ capital city, Victoria. Or if you want to get even further from civilization, Aride Island offers a beautiful tropical nature preserve, and it’s the only place in the world where Wright’s gardenia still grows. Top off your day with a gorgeous view of the sunset in Beau Vallon, back on Mahe. Grab some dinner in one of the restaurants dotting the beach, or stroll through their Wednesday evening market.
