Jay-Z to help design NBA uniforms

Hip hop mogul is part owner of New Jersey Nets team moving to Brooklyn.

One of the most financially successful hip hop artists and entrepreneurs in America, rapper and record producer Jay-Z will now be adding uniform designer to his extensive list of accomplishments, reports Coco Perez.

Co-founder of record label Roc-A-Fella Records and clothing line Rocawear, Jay-Z is also part-owner of the New Jersey Nets NBA team soon to be relocated and renamed the Brooklyn Nets.

As part of the move, the rapper is helping design a new logo, colors, and uniform for the basketball team. A former Brooklynite, Jay-Z grew up in the Marcy Housing Projects in New York City’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood.

Jay Z, Adidas and the Nets are currently finalizing a logo for the Brooklyn Nets and deciding what colors their uniforms should be. The logo is expected to feature the word Brooklyn prominently as the club wants to build on worldwide recognition of the borough’s name, according to a source from the New York Post.

The pop star held a news conference on Monday (September 26) at the under-construction arena to officially announce the team’s renaming and plans to inaugurate the new Barclays Center with a series of concerts.

The club is scheduled to move from New Jersey for the 2012-13 season. Dates for his concerts have not been set, but he promised: "Definitely more than one.”

The rapper is married to R&B superstar Beyoncé Knowles, and the couple is expecting their first child.
