Art fair arrives in Toronto next month

Twelfth edition of Art Toronto begins October 28.

Art lovers, curators and collectors will converge on Canada’s largest city for Art Toronto 2011, marking the art fair’s twelfth year.

The four-day fair – running October 28 to 31 – will feature showcases from 109 international galleries spanning 13 countries. The Drake Hotel, Canadian Art magazine, the Art Gallery of York University and the Art Dealers Association of Canada will also curate unique alternative spaces dedicated to art.

"Art Toronto is more than a place to buy and sell art, it’s also about opportunity: opportunities for galleries to meet artists, fellow dealers and curators," explained Linel Rebenchuk of Art Toronto in a statement.

"It also allows visitors to see the best of what the art world has to offer, and gives attendees the opportunity to learn and take part in forums, interviews, performances and panel discussions."

Curated projects will focus on renowned artists like Andy Warhol, Kent Monkman, Edward Burtynsky, and Chuck Close. Other features include a painting competition, daily lectures, and even Warhol’s 1979 Art Car: a BMW M1 turned into a piece of artwork by the iconic pop artist.
