Free admission to U.S. museums

More than 140 museums participate in ‘Museum Day’ on September 24.

This Saturday (September 24), select museums throughout the U.S. will be offering free admission as part of the Smithsonian magazine ‘Museum Day’ event.

In the spirit of the Smithsonian museums, which offer free admission everyday, ‘Museum Day’ is an annual event hosted by Smithsonian magazine in which participating museums across the country open their doors to anyone presenting a Museum Day Ticket…for free, explains the official website.

Over 140 institutions have agreed to take part in the promotion. To gain free admission, visitors must first register for a ticket on the magazine website. Each pass admits two people, and there is a limit of one ticket per household.

Smithsonian Magazine is the official publication of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. – an educational and research institute funded by the U.S. government. The institute operates a total of 19 museums – mostly located within the city of Washington – with over 136 million items in its collections.
