Emily Blunt takes on Opium

British actress will appear in ad campaign for Yves Saint Laurent fragrance.

French fashion house Yves Saint Laurent has tapped British actress Emily Blunt to appear in their newest ad campaign for Opium fragrance, reports Vogue.

Blunt will star in a series of print and billboard ads photographed by Patrick Demarchelier. An accompanying television campaign – filmed by director Romain Gavras – will feature a leopard alongside the Devil Wears Prada starlet.

"It is a really exciting experience to embody this legendary fragrance, which has stood the test of time without its allure ever being diminished," said The Adjustment Bureau star. "Being a part of this new campaign and being able to tell the story of this very evocative fragrance is a real thrill."

The Opium fragrance was first launched in 1977, and has gained infamy for its risqué advertisements. In 2000, Stephen Meisel’s controversial ad campaign – featuring a nude Sophie Dahl – was banned in the U.K. by the Advertising Standards Authority. Earlier this year, the fashion house had another ad – in which Melanie Thierry appeared to be on drugs and writhing in ecstasy – banned by the board as well.

Whether Blunt’s ad will also push the envelope remains to be seen, but brand president Renaud de Lesquen has promised that the new campaign will "unveil a fiery, almost reckless woman with magnetic seduction, that nobody or nothing can resist."

Last year on July 10, Blunt married American actor John Krasinski, after the pair were set up by Blunt’s The Devil Wears Prada co-star Anne Hathaway.
