Celtic festival comes to Cape Breton

Nova Scotia’s Celtic Colours International Festival begins October 7.

A celebration of all things Scottish and Irish, the Celtic Colours International Festival kicks off its 15th anniversary in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia on October 7.

This year’s festival will focus on the connection between Canada’s East Coast with the Cajun and Appalachian communities in the U.S. featuring the Artists in Residence: local songwriter Ron Bourgeois from Cheticamp, N.S. and old time Appalachian fiddler and singer Bruce Molsky from the U.S.

"We’ll be getting to know more about our Celtic cousins to the South as we broaden our understanding of the roots and branches of Celtic traditional music," explained festival Artistic Director Joella Foulds.

"An emphasis on song this year will help tell the story of the connections and how they came to be."

The festival also boasts a truly massive slate of Celtic performers both from Canada and around the world. Cape Breton’s own Ashley MacIssac will feature in three shows, on October 7, 9 and 14.

Tickets are currently on sale through the festival website.
