Mulberry in New York

UK designer commemorates U.S. flagship store opening with limited edition satchel.

This week, UK fashion house Mulberry celebrated its 40th birthday during New York’s Fashion Week, commemorating their flagship store opening with a limited edition New York Clipper satchel, reports Vogue.

Inspired by the Big Apple, The New York Clipper is a customized version of a classic Mulberry style, featuring New York-inspired detailing, colors and hardware.

The glossy Buffalo leather bag comes in red, white or blue, with a luggage tag showcasing the exclusive Mulberry “peace, love and apple” motif. The Clipper will retail for $950.

In a similar vein, the brand updated the design a popular new style Alexa, established in honor of Alexa Chung, a TV personality and editor at British Vogue.

For the ultimate luxury, the Oak Ostrich bag is covered in dozens of gold apple-shaped rivets. Only 10 are available, retailing for $6,250 each.

Prior to the opening of their U.S. flagship store on New York City’s Spring Street, Mulberry also has two boutiques located on Bleecker Street and Madison Avenue.

The company was founded in 1971 by Roger Saul and his mother Joan and in 1973 they opened a factory in Chilcompton, Somerset, and Mulberry established itself as a British lifestyle brand noted for leather poacher bags including the binocular bag and dispatch bag.

Although the brand now includes womenswear, menswear, and most recently, footwear for women, Mulberry continues to make designer leather goods at its original Somerset factory, called The Rookery.
