Lady Gaga headed towards mainstream?

Theatricality may be toned down to gain wider audience.

Theatrical pop performer Lady Gaga, who quickly made a name for herself with outlandish outfits and racy videos, might be putting her eclectic wardrobe into storage with the hopes of gaining a wider audience, according to an article in Life & Style magazine.

“Gaga wants to push further into the mainstream,” a source told the magazine. “She’s not going to walk around in Ann Taylor suits but she’s toning it down to be more appealing to the big-money fashion and beauty companies.”

Often compared to her idol Madonna, Gaga may be following in her footsteps in terms of toning down her image.

“Lady Gaga looks to Madonna for inspiration in every way. Madonna didn’t get those Vogue covers and Versace modeling contracts until she cleaned up her image a bit. Gaga is doing what Madonna did. She has one Vogue cover but she wants more,” the insider added.

Yesterday (August 28) at the gala MTV Video Music Awards, Gaga donned the costume of her male alter-ego Jo Calderone to perform her most recent single You and I.
