Avril Lavigne debuts collection at Fashion Week

Abbey Dawn in New York City this September.

Canadian pop star Avril Lavigne, 26, will be unveiling her fashion line, Abbey Dawn at this year’s New York Fashion Week, according to her website.

Known for her pop-punk style, the influential singer started a trend of tank tops and men’s ties almost a decade ago when she took the music industry by storm with her debut album Let Go in 2002.

The Abbey Dawn show is set to rock the catwalk on Monday, September 12th at 6 p.m. at Style 360-Metropolitan Pavilion in NYC. In a statement, the pop star promised a “high energy runway show.”

Designed exclusively for Kohl’s in the U.S., the collection name goes back to Lavigne’s childhood, where her father nicknamed her ‘Abbey Dawn,’ and her high school friends would often call her ‘Abbey.’

As of December 2010, the line has included men’s clothing, heavily influenced by the styles of her brother and bandmates. The girl’s clothing is inspired by Lavigne’s personal style, and as the quality of the clothing has improved, prices have become more expensive.

The collection has expanded since its initial line of T-shirts and hoodies. The new women’s wear line includes dresses, skirts, footwear, handbags, denims, wallets, purses and make up, reports Female First. Fashion Week will also launch her full men’s wear collection.

The Complicated singer and her boyfriend Brody Jenner recently attended his half-sister Kim Kardashian’s wedding. Lavigne starts her Black Star tour in Moscow on September 4, and it is unclear whether she will be attending the launch.

More and more celebrities are entering the world of fashion design, including Kim Kardashian for Sears, Gwen Stefani’s ‘L.A.M.B.’ line, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s ‘The Row,’ Madonna’s ‘Material Girl,’ Victoria Beckham, and Jennifer Lopez for Kohl’s, to name just a few.
