Brian Wilson’s In the Key of Disney

Former Beach Boy accepts Disney’s request.

Two years ago, the Disney studio tried to convince former Beach Boy Brian Wilson to revisit classic songs from soundtracks like Snow White, The Jungle Book, Lion King and Toy Story, and give them “the Beach Boys sound,” reports the Guardian.

However, at the time, Wilson was too busy with the production and launch of an album based on unfinished songs by George Gershwin. After the album was released in September 2010, the composer was free to take on the Disney project.

"The Beach Boys sound and the Disney people make a fantastic collaboration," Wilson recently told USA Today. "I tried to do justice to all their songs."

In his upcoming album, In the Key of Disney, he has revisited Toy Story 3’s We Belong Together. The Lion King’s I Just Can’t Wait to be King is now a Bo Diddley rock number.

Wilson also mentioned that Pinocchio’s When You Wish Upon a Star actually inspired one of his most popular songs.

"I heard it while I was driving my car, and I started humming a melody in my head," he said. "I went home and finished it, and it was called ‘Surfer Girl.’"

In the Key of Disney will be in stores on October 25th.
