Hotel prices drop in Europe

Average rate for a hotel room in Europe was at its lowest in July.

There has been a significant drop in the price of European hotels during the month of July, according to study published on Trivago.co.uk, a price comparison website for European hotels.

The average price of a one night stay is currently $113, and it appears that 36 of 50 major cities of Europe have experienced a price decrease.

The most significant drop – 23 percent – was noted in Geneva, Switzerland, however, the city still remains one of the most expensive in Europe. Similar to Italy, London hotels in decreased in price by 19 percent.

Overall, there has been a decrease of 10 to 20 percent for hotel room prices in Europe.

In a few cases, some countries have seen increases in the price of accommodations. Norway, Finland and Sweden, respectively, saw the price of an overnight stay increase by 17 percent, 13 percent and 10 percent.

The most expensive travel destinations, based on the price of a hotel room in August, the top three spots belong to Geneva at $220, Edinburgh at $214, and Venice at $197.
