Lou Reed and Metallica collaborate on operatic project

Forthcoming reworking of Lulu “will be revolutionary” according to Reed.

American rock musician Lou Reed has confirmed that he will re-work material he contributed to the operatic score of German playwright Frank Wedekind’s Lulu with heavy metal band Metallica.

The iconic musician told New York Magazine that his version of the opera’s score is nothing less than “awe-inspiring.” Reed revealed,"it’s maybe the best thing done by anyone, ever. It could create another planetary system. I’m not joking, and I’m not being egotistical."

Three tracks already named from the ten-track LP are Pumping Blood, Mistress Dread and Junior Dad. A website has also been launched in advance of the currently unnamed collaboration – which tells a story of an abused young dancer’s life and relationships – though, other than its November 1 release date (October 31 in the U.K.), few concrete details have been provided.

Reed played several British shows this summer including two headline dates, but has yet to preview anything from this forthcoming project.
