Matthew McConaughey will star as a strip club owner in the comedy Magic Mike directed by Steven Soderbergh (The Informant, Traffic), reports Variety.
The film is drawn from actor Channing Tatum’s own experiences working as a teen stripper in Tampa, Florida, before he hit the big time in Hollywood. Tatum plays the title character Magic Mike, and takes Alex Pettyfer (I Am Number Four) under his wing and teaches him the ropes.
McConaughey will play Dallas, the former male stripper who owns the Xquisite strip club where Magic Mike works.
Tatum and Soderbergh recently worked together for the action film Haywire which will open January 20, 2012.
Matthew McConaughey is currently filming The Paperboy with Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman. He is awaiting release dates for the comedy Bernie with Jack Black and Shirley MacLaine, and the drama Killer Joe.
