Actress Diane Kruger is reprising her role as brand ambassador for the Calvin Klein fragrance Beauty – this time without her clothes on, reports Coco Perez.
Last year, the Inglourious Basterds starlet appeared in a sweetly innocent campaign that was uncharacteristic for the label. Wearing a white dress, the blonde beauty stared into the camera in a full-length shot, superimposed with the name of the fragrance and a large bottle of the perfume.
In contrast, the new ad shows her in black and white, photographed close up wearing nothing but a vague smile, her arm draped creatively to hide more sensitive areas.
Officials from the label had seemed quite adamant on keeping Kruger innocent for the perfume campaign last year, but this year seems to mark a return to their usual risqué style.
"Certainly sex is in our DNA, but this fragrance speaks to a different audience [than scents like Obsession and Euphoria]," creative director Francisco Costa explained, of last year’s campaign. "It is very much the spirit of the collection – elegant, sophisticated, timeless and beautiful – and designed to appeal to a more mature customer. This is a woman in her 40s, who is self-assured and secure."
Catherine Walsh, with parent company Coty, seemed to agree: "It’s very elegant, and that’s why we wanted to work with Diane. This woman we’re trying to portray – she’s not someone who doesn’t have experiences in her life. We wanted this woman to be worldly and well-traveled, a confident woman and a woman who had strength," she said.
