Aerosmith kick it ‘old school’

Insider says new album adopts "old school" vibe thanks to producer Jack Douglas.

Longtime fans of Aerosmith will be elated to learn that the band’s new album will mimic their early, classic seventies sound.

An insider to the band – known as John B. – has posted an update to the band’s official site, revealing the shape of things to come on their newest album.

"The age-old question from most people is, ‘will it sound like [the 1976 album] Rocks’? …I will say is that this will sound like vintage Aerosmith," John B. wrote. "Joey’s playing with the precision of an ‘Omega Speedmaster Professional’ and gets as funky as Clyde Stubblefield on his best days… I am telling you this stuff is going to blow you guys away…"

Producer Jack Douglas could well be the person to thank for this return to a classic sound. He was also behind the controls for 1974’s Get Your Wings and 1975’s Toys in the Attic.

"Jack reminds me of Doc Brown from Back to the Future," John B. wrote. "He seems crazy as a loon but also as sane as a mental health counselor."

Aerosmith’s last LP of original material – Just Push Play – was released nearly a decade ago, although the band did contribute to a blues cover album in 2004 with Honkin’ on Bobo.
