Robert Redford and Shia LaBeouf team up for political thriller

Redford to also produce and direct the project.

Sundance Film Festival founder Robert Redford and Transformers star Shia LaBeouf will team up for the political thriller The Company You Keep, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Redford will direct the adaptation of the 2003 Neil Gordon novel, in addition to producing via his Wildwood Enterprises, in partnership with Voltage Pictures.

Redford will play a former member of radical 1960s student antiwar group the Weather Underground, who has been living as a fugitive since 1974.

After his true identity is exposed by a young reporter (LaBeouf), Redford’s character has to abandon his safe, underground life – not to mention his daughter – for a life on the lam.

In 2007, Robert Redford directed and starred in the 2007 Middle East war drama Lions for Lambs co-starring Meryl Streep and Tom Cruise. In April this year he directed The Conspirator, another political drama about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.

Shia LaBeouf is currently starring in Transformers: Dark of the Moon. His most recent flick The Wettest County in the World, a Depression-era crime drama, is due out in December.
