Lil Wayne releases mixtape to tide fans over

EP’s first track already streaming online.

Rapper Lil Wayne is releasing a mixtape, Sorry 4 the Wait as a literal apology to fans for the numerous delays plaguing his upcoming studio album, Tha Carter IV, reports Rolling Stone.

Wayne describes the EP as a "thank you" to his fans for supporting him in the first leg of his I Am Still Music tour. The tour picks up again in Hartford, Connecticut on Wednesday (July 13), with Sorry 4 the Wait scheduled for release on the same day.

The mixtape’s debut track, Tunechi’s Back, is already streaming online. The rapper’s recent jail time hasn’t reduced the number of drug references or threats of vengeance peppered throughout the track.

"Swear to god I’d never shoot unless I’m shooting to kill," he raps. "Instead of writing raps you should be writing your will."

Tha Carter IV will be Wayne’s first new album since getting out of prison last November. The 28-year-old Wayne was incarcerated in March last year, and served an eight-month sentence for criminal possession of a weapon.

When the LP was first announced at the beginning of the year, it was originally supposed to come out in the spring. In March, Wayne said the album would drop in May, but by the end of April, that date had been pushed back to June – come June, the date was pushed back again to August 29, where it has so far held firm.
