African hotels voted best in the world

Africa’s exoticism wins top pick in reader poll.

Africa is home to six of the ten best hotels in the world – including all of the top three – according to the World’s Best Awards 2011 Readers’ Survey conducted by Travel + Leisure.

The Singita Grumeti Reserves hotel located in the East African country of Tanzania was chosen by website visitors as the very best hotel in the world for 2011. A first time winner, the Reserves offer guests the choice between two lavish lodges or a tented safari camp.

The flagship lodge, Sasakwa, is an East African ranch-style with a country club feel. Set on a high plateau, the lodge enjoys panoramic views of the surrounding plains. The second lodge, Faru Faru, features six chalets that overlook the Grumeti river, done in the style of a Swahili beach resort.

The safari camp, Sabora, allows guests to adventure in style. The luxurious tents come with mahogany chests, worn folding chairs and even Persian rugs.

Five other African hotels made the top ten, including two more from Tanzania. South Africa’s Singita Sabi Sand at Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, and Royal Malewane came in second and third place respectively.
